I was trying to get ready for a date when the drain clogged in the shower.  I grabbed the plunger and went to work on it, thinking to myself that I probably looked like such a goon.  Here I was with soap and shampoo cascading off of me and jumping up and down to no avail.  How was I going to get this fixed, finish showering and get to the other side of San Francisco in less than three hours?

Luckily for me I was able to get a good plumber on the phone who said he would be over in no time.  I was a bit worried that they were going to be late and I was going to miss my date, but it took them less time than they had originally told me it was going to take.

Once they got to my place they went to work on it immediately and like magic they were in and out.  They simply took a tool they called a snake and fixed the problem. 

Though the drain clogged before, I never did much to fix it and on occasion I would get a bottle of some of the liquid stuff.  The more I used some of the cheap liquid stuff, the more the drain seemed to clog.

Well, trenchless sewer line replacement is now a way of the future. The old way of replacing a sewer pipe is to dig up the old pipe, by hand or with a machine, and lay a new one. This way is very labor intensive and can be very expensive when a line is in a difficult position, such as under a house, a road or under concrete.

The trenchless replacement technology saves valuable time and money and is particularly efficient when the sewer pipe is a house, a driveway, under a big tree.

So how exactly does sewer trenchless sewer replacement work?

Using this new sewer pipe replacement method we excavate a hole at the building where the cast iron pipe goes under the house and we then dig a hole at the end of the sewer pipe near the curb at the street. We expose the sewer drain pipe in each hole and cut out small sections of pipe. Next, we feed a large strong steel cable between the two excavations. Attached to this cable is a metal cone shaped head that breaks the old pipe in place to exactly the size of the new trenchless sewer pipe. The new sewer drain pipe is actually a black plastic pipe about 5 or 6 inches in diameter. This sewer drain pipe is joined together by melting the ends of the pipe and joining them to create one continuous length of sewer drain pipe without any joints, eliminating leaks and tree roots form entering the pipe.

As we pull the cable through the sewer drain pipe with 10 tons of pressure, the splitting head bursts the old sewer drain pipe and pushes it out of the way making room for the new sewer drain pipe.

The actual replacement of the sewer drain pipe usually only takes a few hours and the work can be done within one day. There is no problem pulling through roots or under driveways or even homes. This trenchless replacement technology works well and because the new sewer drain pipe has no joints, is flexible so it will never crack or break and no roots can get into it.

The new sewer drain pipe also called HDPE pipe is very smooth internally so the sewer drain pipe is very efficient for water, debris and toilet solids to flow freely.
