A Few Tips To Fix A Clogged Garbage Disposal In San Francisco

There are few things as disconcerting as plumbing problems. Things like a clogged garbage disposal or leaking drain can sometimes be hard for someone to fix on their own. These few tips can help all San Francisco residents narrow down the problem and determine the best plumbing contractor to call for help.

The first thing San Francisco residents should do when they are experiencing a clogged garbage disposal is to check the unit itself. Most disposal units have a reset button and a key slot to manually move the blades to free up obstructions in them.

Typically, the reset button is red and is located on the underside of the unit. Start by pressing it. With some units it might difficult to determine whether or not the unit has been reset, but when the unit is turned on after it is reset it will either start running or it may hum a bit. If it is humming, turn it off because there is something jammed in it.

If the unit is jammed then you will need either a ¼ inch Allen wrench or a garbage disposal key. The underside of the unit has a hole for the wrench in the center of it. Place the wrench in the unit and turn it in both directions. Make sure that you turn the wrench around a few times to ensure that whatever has blocked the blades from moving is cleared. After that, press the reset button again and the unit should work.

These are usually the main issues with a clogged garbage disposal, but there are several other reasons that the unit could start backing up in the sink. If this does not fix the problem then it might be best to find a good plumber in San Francisco that knows how to fix all types of plumbing problems.
